Departures and Junctions, 2003 - 2009

I have a childhood fascination with the landscape that occurs near exit ramps and highway interchanges.  As a kid, I imagined riding a dirt bike or skateboard into these sculpted spaces.  I still feel a sense of significance and potential exists in these public, yet off-limits spaces.

I began to make photographs in these places to help clarify my personal connection to them and refine what this sense of importance might be. Sometimes the pictures seem to offer insight and sometimes they ask questions.  I'm interested in both the sculptural forms and metaphoric possibilities that might exists in these byproducts of human convenience.
